I intended researching some screen tents suited to camping and then came across a query regarding screen tents which I have reprinted below. I decided now would be a good time to do some research and look at some of the family camping size screen tents available.
Can anyone recommend a good screen tent? There are so many to choose from and an even amount of good and bad reviews from customers on Amazon, etc. The main reason we want one is for our Sept/Oct trip to the Fort so if you had good luck with the one that you used there, please let us know! We want one that will fit over the picnic table with some room to spare for a couple/few chairs. That would rule out the ones with the built in floors, I guess. We’ll have 8 people, so probably not a 10 x 10. A screen tent is ideal if you are camping areas where at times you need a rest/dining area which protects you from the elements, debris carried by gusts of wind and insects. They are perticulary useful if you have young children and want a safe play area and want to protect them from direct exposure to the sun. As with all products screen tents vary in price and specification. The key points to consider are: Ensure size is appropiate Length of time it assemble Is it insect proof Does it have rain curtains Will it withstand gusting winds I have taken a few of the more popular screen tents and compared them here. As with most products you get what you pay for and the higher end models are loaded with great features, but you obviously have to ask yourself how much use you will make out of your screen tent. Obviously as well as family camping they are ideal in the back garden on those warm evenings when you are tempted to light the barbecue, but the insects are competing for your space.
